Today, a negative RT-PCR test and a COVID vaccine certificate have become the new-age ‘visa’ if you want to travel outside of India. It’s a tool for countries across the globe to ensure that no fresh cases or carriers set foot in their country. As COVID-19 shows a global retreat, more and more countries are welcoming tourists. And if you too are planning a trip, you’ll need a vaccine passport.

What is a vaccine passport?

It’s a documented proof that you’re vaccinated against the infection.

Is it mandatory?

Yes, officials can ask you for a vaccine certificate linked to your passport, especially at the time of departure. This is to verify that you’re leaving India only after being fully vaccinated.

What are the limitations for Indians?

As of now, India has three approved vaccines – Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik V. While Covaxin is not yet approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Covishield has not received a green pass from certain European countries.

The eight European countries that have put Covishield on their list of approved vaccines, according to the Economic Times are – Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, and Switzerland.
