In Hawaiian, “pono” means “balance in life”. Ho’oponopono is a traditional Hawaiian practice that combines reconciliation and forgiveness. It’s an extremely simple form of self-love, which helps you realise that all your experiences are a part of your consciousness and must be taken accountability of. In this guided series, Ameeta Menon, an expert at Ho’oponopono will teach you how to make things right.

People who find it hard to come to terms with forgiveness – internally and towards others, often find comfort in this deep healing meditation. In practice it works as a mantra for self- love and is extremely simple to do. Being an extremely zen concept, chanting the prayer over and over is a powerful method to cleanse the body of guilt, shame, bad feelings, or memories that keep the mind fixated on negative connotations.

Benefits

As a forgiveness practice, Ho’oponopono is deeply resonant. It penetrates your inner monologue over a period of time and has many benefits.

  1. When practiced regularly, this form of meditation helps to create positive, neural pathways in the brain.
  2. It eradicates all negativity from your life and improves the quality of your thoughts and expectations.
  3. By also improving the quality of your sleep, it hastens recovery from physical activity and improves immunity.
  4. Getting rid of stress and anxiety triggers, it enhances creativity and improves mental clarity and focus.
  5. Reciting its simple incantations and chants helps develop self-love and self-esteem that tide you over at times when you especially need it the most.

In a sense, it’s both a lullaby to yourself and an insightful way to approach forgiving other people.
