Located on the south-west of the island, Salemi is offering up abandoned dwellings for bargain prices in a bid to recoup its residents, as numbers have been steadily on the decline for decades. It’s a gorgeous, historic location, surrounded by vineyards and olive grove, with its homes enclosed by ancient town walls dating back as far as the 1600s. Salemi is still suffering from the aftershocks, both physical and cultural, of the 1968 Belice Valley earthquake.
