2020 was not a regular year in so many ways but not being able to travel was one thing that hit everyone hard. Although even today, the situation is not completely under control, you can have a safe trip to these secluded destinations across India.

Mukteshwar, Uttarakhand – Away from the crowd, begin your day overlooking the stunning sunrise at Nanda Devi Peak, followed by visiting ancient temples and lush green meadows. It’s a great destination for adventure junkies as well.  

Best time to visit – March to May

How to reach:

By road: Take a bus from Kathgodam or Delhi

By rail: Nearest station is Kathgodam (73 km)

By air: Pantnagar or Delhi airport

Bekal, Kerala – Witness the untouched beauty of Kerala at Valiyaparamba backwaters, Bekal fort, Kappil beach, Bekal beach, Lake temples, and ancient caves. Do not miss visiting Nileswaram, a place that offers spectacular views of the water bodies.

Best time to visit – June to September

How to reach:

By road: Take a cab from Bangalore (381 km) or Mangalore (67 km)

By rail: Nearest stations are Kasargod and Kanhagad (both are 12 km away)

By air: Mangalore airport (50 km)

Mawlynnong, Meghalaya – Asia’s cleanest village, also known as ‘God’s Own Garden,’ is home to breath-taking waterfalls, Living Roots Bridge, ultra-clear Umngot River Dowki, and a mysterious Balancing Rock. The entire town looks like a big garden, giving it it’s title.

By rail: Nearest station is Guwahati (182 km)

Champaner-Pavagadh, Gujarat – A UNESCO World Heritage Site, its a land where you can visit beautiful and aesthetically-pleasing mosques, temples, and step wells. The intricate stone carvings as well as the ancient architecture from the Mughal and Turkish era will leave you in awe.

By rail: Best to take a train to Vadodara station and a cab from there

Bundelkhand, Madhya Pradesh – Bundelkhand, Orchha, and Jhansi have a backdrop of some magnificent palaces such as Jahangir Mahal, Raja Mahal, Rai Praveen Mahal, Rai Praveen Mahal, and Dauji Ki Haveli. You can also visit the Orchha Wildlife Sanctuary and a number of temples and churches in this belt.

Khimsar Village, Rajasthan – Get one-on-one with the raw beauty of Rajasthan at Khimar Village. The Khimsar Fort, Dunes Village, Osian, Nagaur Fort, Panchala Black Buck Reserve and the Dhawa Doli Wildlife Sanctuary are the best places to visit her. You may also visit Jodhpur, which is 102 km from there.
