Emotional wounds take long to heal but it’s not impossible to get over something that broke you. You might feel stuck and hopeless, but healing is just around the corner. How? Take a look.
Take baby steps
Trying to change too many things at once may cause more harm than good. Therefore, make very small changes, take baby steps. Setting unrealistic expectations can only make you feel like a failure.
Remember that you don’t have to heal 100 percent at once
Healing does not need to be 100 percent in one go. So, go slow, take your time to cope with triggers, relationships, self-esteem, etc.
Be patient and persistent
Healing takes a lot of effort and does not happen in a day. You need to be patient and allow for the time needed to learn new skills. We need to be patient and persistent even through tough situations.
Set realistic expectations
The expectations we set must be realistic. Progress and healing are never a steady climb. It is two steps forwards and one step backwards. Remember that isn’t a failure, it is a reality. Be patient and persistent and make sure you set realistic expectations.
View your failures as a learning opportunity
Failure is the best teachers in world. Instead of feeling viewing it as a complete failure, remember that such setbacks will only give you a learning opportunity.
Prioritise self-care and self-compassion
Working on emotional healing takes a lot of effort and time. As a result, to get going, you must pay attention to your own needs. Your body will tell you when it is tired and needs to be taken care of. Therefore, it is important to prioritise your own care too. Indulge in a bit of self-care and self-compassion.
Process your feelings from the past
It never helps to run away from your past. You should be ready to process your feelings. In case you don’t deal with them, they generally become the reason for a major outburst.
Ask for help
Healing cannot be done in isolation. It isn’t easy asking for help, especially if your faith has been let down in the past. Reaching out gives you emotional support, guidance and the ability to rid you of any shame. Help can be in different forms from any source.
