Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher, once said: “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” This one phrase gives us a glimpse into what the law of attraction really is.

The Secret which is the holy grail for the law of attraction, states that our magnetic thoughts have the power to pull anything and everything into our life. The universe is on our side, you think, and you receive.

We know it seems strangely simple and believe us, it actually is.

How is the law of attraction? Fact, not fiction.

The law of attraction is Universe’s window for us mortal beings to manifest our dreams into reality, with our thoughts. But does it really work? According to Rhonda Byrne, the author of The Secret, cutting-edge science has confirmed that every thought is made up of energy and has its own unique frequency.

So, when you repeat a specific thought with pure intentions and conviction, it attracts the energy and frequencies of like thoughts – be it objects or people – and it draws them towards you.

This might seem mystical or hand-down legend, but it is as real as gravity, and is always in effect, even at this very moment.

How does the law of attraction work?

Like attracts like. When you feel excited, passionate, joyful, and appreciative, you are sending out that same energy and vibrations in the universe. Similarly, when you are anxious, stressed, angry, or resentful, you send out negative energy.

Through the law of attraction, the universe will respond enthusiastically to both these energies. It will give you whatever energy you are creating. The law does not distinguish between what is better or worse for you. The thoughts and the energy you radiate are what you shall receive in return.

As says the spiritual author Shannon Kaiser, “We are all like magnets, both reflecting and attracting what we hold in our thoughts.”

The more aware you are about what you want to attract, the universe will give you more of those occasions where you can do, be, and experience it.

Now that we know what it is, and how does it work, we can delve into the practical side of using this phenomenon in our lives.

Here are some points to get you started.
• Consciously respond positively to the situations that arise during the day.
• Choose to think differently.
• Focus on the things you want to achieve and do.
• Think that you can, and you will achieve whatever you’ve set your mind to.
• Ask the universe what you want, not what you don’t want.
• Imagine how you would feel if you achieved what you wanted, this will raise your vibrations.
• Visualise – maintain a gratitude journal – speak your dream out loud – watch out for meaningful ‘coincidences.’

But wait, is that all?

One very silly and expected notion is that thinking will get the job done. We know you’ll say – Isn’t that what we were talking about the entire time? Truth be told, thinking will get you halfway, the rest half is for your efforts and actions.

To put it in simple terms, hoping and thinking about getting fit, will get you nowhere. You have to eat healthy, you have to work out, you have to take simultaneous actions with your thoughts.

The thoughts and beliefs will work only when you do. It’s essential to align your thoughts and actions to achieve the desired result.

Be consistent and honest on your part, and then surrender and let the universe take the wheel. Things may pan out as you have wished, and sometimes they won’t but it is okay. Your positive thoughts and gratitude will still take you to a better place, and attract better avenues.
