Spending endless hours in front of our monitors plus the added mobile time takes a toll on our eyes. And since simply throwing away the computer isn’t an option for us, here are some simple eye exercises that you can do while working. So, don’t rush to make those eye drops your best friend, and try these to relieve the built-up eye-stress.
Blinking
Wondering why blinking is in this list? Because on average, a person should blink 15-20 times per minute, and most of us are nowhere near it. The lack of blinking dries out the eyes and causes scratchiness. Train yourself to blink every four seconds to keep your eyes well lubricated.
Palming
Sit in a comfortable position, rub your palms together to warm them up. Next, cup your hands and press them over your closed eyes. The warmth from the palms will relax your eyes. Repeat this for a few minutes to relax your eyes.
Look Afar
Our eyes are mostly staring at up-close objects on a screen. To help your eyes adjust between near and far objects, sit back and observe something which is afar from you. Find something at the opposite end of the room and scan its outline. Move from one object to another. The point is to keep your eyes in deliberate motion.
The 10-10-10 Rule
Every 10 minutes look at something 10 feet away for at least 10 seconds. That short vision break is essential for keeping your eyes healthy, and not letting the tension build up in your eyes.
Eye Rolling
Who knew a snobbish eye roll had benefits? Especially when you are sitting in front of the computer screen at work, take a quick break, and roll your eyes. Simply close your eyes and roll your eyes around. (Though we advise no to do it while looking at a co-worker; we’re joking) It almost feels like an eye massage and calms burning eyes.
Along with these exercises, eat healthy foods such as carrots, citrus fruits, and green leafy vegetables for healthy and happy eyes.
