Martyr Major Vibhuti Dhoundiyal attained martyrdom while fighting an intense battle in Pulwama last year. Now, his wife, Nikita Kaul Dhoundiyal is all set to join the Indian Army to serve the nation after clearing the Short Service Commission (SSC) exam and interview.
This young determined lady filled out the SSC form six months after the 35-year-old Major laid down his life. The couple was married for only nine months before the tragedy struck. For Nikita, this was a way to heal. She says that this was a way for her to connect with her husband and the way he must have felt through the entire process of giving the exam and the training that followed. She mentioned that she connected with him, his fears and anxiety, which gave her strength.
The Major was posted with 55 RR in Pulwama. He was martyred in an encounter with terrorists on 17 February, 2019 in a 20-hour gun battle. While he managed to save three soldiers, the Major succumbed to his own serious injuries.
The Major’s coffin arrived home, which is Dehradun, draped in the Indian flag and Nikita stood strong, saluting her husband. She even told people to draw inspiration from him. Crediting her husband for her decision to join the Army, Nikita said that whenever she was in doubt, she simply thought of him.
War widows who wish to join the Army get a relaxation in age limit. However, the selection process is difficult for them too, as everyone else. While talking about the exam, Nikita stated that she worked hard to get qualified and wished to excel in the one-year training now. She will soon be giving up her MNC-job to join the Officers Training Academy in Chennai.
We applaud this brave lady who herself is an inspiration for all.
