What better way to end a long week than with a nice stroll along the Marine Drive? Sharing laughter and love with your friends and family as you watch a beautiful sunset. Eating fruit lollies and feeling the evening breeze in your hair. Not to forget that long ride in the iconic Victoria carriages. Feels like a scene from another era, another Mumbai that does not exist anymore. Well, get ready to get a taste of nostalgia. The Victorian carriages are making a comeback after four long years of ban. It was in June 2015 that the Bombay High Court issued a ban on them on account of animal cruelty. This time, however, they are here with a slight, and shall we say positive twist.
These carriages that ruled the roads for close to a century, will be back albeit the horses. The state transport department has cleared a proposal to allow battery-operated carriages. Later this month after the election code of conduct is lifted, you shall spot them near Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaum Chowpatty, and Nariman Point.
