Vigyaan Bhairav Tantra means the technique of going beyond. Vigyaan means consciousness, Bhairav means the state which is beyond consciousness. Tantra means the method – the method of going beyond consciousness. The Lotus Thread is the sixth and final technique in the Vigyaan Bhairav Tantra series and helps you experience the power of Kundalini.

The origin of Vigyaan Bhairav Tantra

According to Indian mythology the knowledge of Vigyaan Bhairav is said to be shared by Lord Shiva with his consort Devi Parvati. The Shiva-Shakti are considered as the deities of supreme consciousness. Shiva or Shiva Tattva, also known as Bhairav is said to be the innermost truth or the purest form. Shakti is believed to be the supreme universal energy that is like the connecting thread through everything in the creation.

Here, Parvati or Shakti represents all of the seekers as she surrenders to Shiva. She then seeks the supreme knowledge of Vigyaan Bhairav Tantra.

What is Vigyaan Bhairav Tantra?

Vigyaan Bhairav Tantra is the technique of developing insight into the pure consciousness. This expression is actually taken from the title of an ancient Indian text, Rudrayamala Tantra. This book offers 112 highly simple but profound meditation techniques that can help develop an awareness about the inner self.

How does this technique help us?

Vigyaan Bhairav Tantra uses the techniques of mindfulness and mantra meditations. It guide us on the path of emotional wellness and mindful living. During ancient times meditation was used as a medium to attain knowledge, enlightenment and experience superior bliss. In today’s time all this might seem not as relevant but the practice of meditation is more important than ever.

Meditation brings deep relaxation, balances mental and emotional health. It also cleanses and strengthens the nervous system, relieves stress and fatigue, and increases intuition and creativity. Meditation is food for the soul and energy for the mind. When the sense organs are attached to the sense objects, the mind is lost in cravings and aversions and intelligence takes a back seat.  Know more about the power of meditation and its benefits by watching the video below.

The moment you realise that you are bigger than the sense organs, you come out of that inertia and petty desires disappear. Meditation brings all the senses to the Self—the mind rises above cravings and aversions.

Meditation is an integration of science and art and therefore every individual experiences meditation differently. Over years the techniques and methods of attaining the meditative state might have changed, but it has stood the test of time.

How can we learn this technique?

This experience-based technique is more like a gateway to a meditative state which can be explored with the guidance of a guru or master. This knowledge can only be fully gathered in the state of Guru Tattva, which means total surrender with faith on the master.

The Master uplifts our consciousness and it is his presence that knowledge is known to effortlessly translate into experience.  When the seeker is absorbed in the master’s presence, he is able to transcend ego and enter a heightened state of awareness.

One cannot hold on to nothing, nor can one capture nothing. That is when we become one with the self, transcending the body consciousness. The Vigyaan Bhairav Tantra will help you attain this state of inner consciousness.

What are the benefits associated with the Lotus Thread?

This technique is said to wake up dormant energy in your body and move it along your chakras (energy centres) until it reaches the point of release at the seventh (crown) chakra, your head. This release of energy promotes internal balance, awakening, and enlightenment. People who practice Kundalini meditation report experiencing a range of benefits such as, increased mindfulness and compassion, improved communication with self and others, inspiration, a clear mind, a more developed sense of self, and greater purpose and intent in your actions.
