On day two of the ongoing Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020, five design entrepreneurs are to be chosen for the sustainable fashion award under the Circular Design Challenge (CDC). The challenge is an association of Reliance Industries Ltd.’s (RIL) R | Elan ‘Fashion for Earth’ initiative, LFW and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP,) in India.
CDC aims to bring to limelight those who endeavour to make a difference in the Indian fashion and textile industry through their sustainable designs.
The challenge offers young fashion and accessory designers a platform to showcase their innovative designs using different sources of waste. This includes plastics as well.
This season, there were over 85 registrations from more than 40 cities in the country. Out of these, five were shortlisted to showcase their designs using circular design principles before a jury. The chosen applicants will be mentored in presentation development and in displaying their products before a panel of industry experts.
The finalists this season are SKILLED SAMARITAN by Gauri Gopa Agarwal, CANCELLED PLANS by Mallika Reddy, CHAMBRAY & CO by Esha Agarwal, MALAI by Zuzana Gombosova and Susmith Chempodil and OFF GRAIN by Varsha Rani Solanki.
A winner will be chosen by the jury at the final round to be held on 13th February 2020, the Sustainable Fashion Day at LFW.
R Elan will present a 20-lakh cash prize to the winner to build their sustainable fashion brand. Besides, the winner will also have an opportunity to showcase their collection at LFW’s Winter/Festive edition this year.
