Caffeine addiction isn’t something to be proud of. If you struggle to function without your three cups of coffee throughout the day and feel stranded without your fix of caffeine, you’re heading towards a coffee addiction.

A superfood, filled with disease-fighting antioxidants and benefits that can help your body, excess coffee can have a reasonable amount of effects that can hurt your hearth and keep you from being productive. It can also cause jitters, anxiety and affect your sleep cycle, heightening your body’s stress response and playing with your perception of your own stress levels.

But, lucky for you, there are ways in which you can still get the right amount of energy and mood-lifting feelings using these no-caffeine alternatives.

Golden Milk

Not only is it a delicious alternative to caffeine but has incredible nutrients can help start your day and an energetic note. Just mix a cup of almond milk with a pinch of turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, ginger and sweetener of your choice. Anti-inflammatory ingredients such as turmeric and cinnamon can make for a great start to the day.

Cold Showers

Studies have shown that cold showers help us feel more alert and get our blood flowing, promoting a flow of good energy through the body. And we’re not even suggesting you turn your warm baths into frigid showers, just before you’re ready to step out of the shower, turn your water pressure to cold. While it may sound like an extremely evil thing to do, it can give you that much-needed morning boost you seek out coffee for.

Drink peppermint tea

Just the sound of it makes you feel refreshed and drinking peppermint tea first thing in the morning can put an extra pep in your step that you so desperately need. With wonderful energy-boosting properties and taste, brewing your tea in the morning can turn into a meditative moment for you to take a moment to reflect. Just brew your tea in simmering water and add your choice of sweetener to the mix.

Blend up a smoothie

Starting your mornings with a nutrient-filled smoothie can not only serve as a great coffee replacement but also keep you full until it’s time for lunch. Look for ingredients that have lots of energy-boosting properties such as avocado, blueberries, frozen bananas, spinach or any other fruit or vegetable you fancy. This will make for the perfect drinkable breakfast you can start your day with. A pro tip is to add a good scoop of protein powder to your smoothie to get an added protein and probiotic boost.

Flavoured water

Yes, you may have heard it several times but let us say it again, water is the best alternative to caffeine. Sipping on a glass of water first thing in the morning has it’s own health benefits. From aiding digestion to hydrating your body after a long span of sleep, drinking water can alleviate fatigue and brain fog. Having it first thing in the morning can also help you feel more alert and prevent dehydration from setting in. To add a boost of flavour, squeeze in fresh lemon juice and a drizzle of honey or you can also add slices of your favourite fruit to the water
