Among the luscious green setting of Sunder Nursery and its broader location within Nizamuddin is going to be the event of ‘The Classic Bagh Festival,’ presented by JodhpurRiff and the British Council, in association with Aga Khan Trust for Culture.
The festival aims to celebrate Hazrat Nizamuddins Auliya’s vision of pluralism and kindness, and the legacy of his favourite disciple, father of Qawaali and Urdu literature, Hazrat Ameer Khusru. The festival hopes to highlight the community and celebrate inclusiveness. Split into three periods, the festival will open with a lakeside performance from 6am to 9am by remarkable singers such as Smita Bellur and Jasleen Kaur Monga. This will be followed by Delhi’s renowned Qawalli singer Dhruv Sangari “Bilal Chishti” from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. By evening, a special Jangda recital from the Manganiyer tradition led by Barkat Khan and a performance by renowned master Ustad Saeed Zafar Khan will be taking place in the amphitheater.
The festival has strict guidelines in place due to protocols being followed for COVID-19 with mandatory masking, socially distant seating and the audience capacity is capped at half for all the performances.
